Leading, how to start – D.M. Escalante

Thank you so much for connecting with me I am writing a series on leading if you wanted to see the first article click here.    Any Journey begins with a first step. How does one lead? How do we transition from follower to leader. How do we move from a position of being told what to do to a position of telling others?

I have experienced many types of leaders in my working career. I think my dad was the toughest.  He is very stern and is not one who coddles you when it comes to your performance. My Dad is all business and is the best at his craft (concrete) He gets things done without regard as to how you feel about it. He was not always the Boss.  He started out about 40 or so years ago. as a general laborer.  He often worked hard and long hours to support my brother and I at the time. Now he runs his own company I am so proud of my Dad.

Leading begins with the taking the first step: Initiative.  you have to commit for the duration. Leading does not take breaks, it takes assessments to see how well the project is moving. It takes guts to lead sure you can always criticize that leader and how you could do better.  If that has happened to you then, I have a question? what is stopping you from leading?  This is critical because as you find out what is truly keeping you silent you will discover the thing that is holding you back.

quick steps:

  1. Identify.  Identify what is truly holding you from stepping in or stepping up?
  2. Quantify.  Figure out if the reason your are staying in the background, is worth seeing the project flounder. one reason it could be failing is derived from a lack of the gift you bring to the table.
  3. Rectify.  Reduce your decision to lead to one act you can do right now. Do not loose your nerve, the first action is always the hardest. If you need resources to help you get the ball rolling look out for them.  Resolve within your self to do one thing to lead (and yes, planing is a step towards leading although you have to keep momentum).

I pray that these quick steps help you move into the position the project needs you for. If it has? then please let me know. I want to hear from you.  If you think  this will help a friend then share it.  There are many other resources if you look up leadership in your search engine.  the resources are endless as they equip you to climb higher and soar. Praying for you.

Mike

About escalanteministries.com

I was a young man who worked for a great organization "Forged by the Sea." Now I'm an old head kicking back on the east side; where the sun doesn't set. I'm a man who is pursuing his contributions to the world. I'm not perfect. In fact, a work in progress until Jesus takes me home. Philippians 1:6
